Every once in a while as a reporter on the world of MicroCap stocks I come across a company that I believe deserves special attention.
A company that embodies all the attributes that make Micro Cap investing both so exciting as well as often massively profitable.
IÂ have recently found such a company and wanted to take a few moments here to bring them to your attention.
The company is called Coastal Integrated Services Inc and they trade under the symbol COLV.
A wholly owned subsidiary of COLV named SimplyLids has come up with an innovative design breakthrough for the takeaway beverage cup that is causing some of the largest fast food giants in the world to take serious interest in this small firm.
The design is called the ThumbSlider and it solves a very basic design flaw that anyone who has ever had coffee spill out of their takeaway cup upon hitting a speed bump will immediately understand.
The COLVÂ Thumbslider allows for you to close the drinking hole on a beverage cup by simply sliding your thumb. That way when you are not actually drinking from the cup it is covered and cannot spill.
Trend Hunter called the design one of the "Top 20 Trend for 2014" and it also received the prestigious "Innovative New Product" award at the Seattle Coffee Fest show.
It is hard to overstate how huge a market we are talking about when we talk about the beverage market. The cups and lids segment alone is set to grow to 10 billion by the end of 2018.
McDonald's alone uses 250 million hot and cold beverage cups...a day. And that is just one company.
So IÂ think you can imagine the massive profit potential for solving a universal problem with an elegant award winning design in such a market.
But COLVÂ ThumbSlider goes even further than just solving the spillage issue. Besides also being made of an environmentally friendly material that is 100% recyclable the slider itself is the perfect size for an advertisement.
The promotional possibilities are massive here. The removable thumb slider could have characters on it that children could collect. Think of it like this, something that previously was a cost could actually turn into a source of revenue. I think it is important for you to keep this in your mind as you evaluate COLV.
Again, the largest players in the fast food market are certainly doing so.
COLVÂ has recently signed an NDA with one of the largest fast food chains in the world to discuss working together.
And COLV recently announced two massive quote requests. One for 6 million lids and the other for 2.5 billion lids.
As a reporter in the field, bringing Micro Cap investing ideas to my reader IÂ am always looking for firms that have 2 attributes.
1) They have some sort of intellectual property, a design break through, a new product, something that could give a much larger firm a competitive advantage.
2) They are at a place in their development where the product/or design has been validated but not yet widely adopted.
Number one is obvious but the reason for number two is that if the product has already "Tipped" if you will, if it is already a massive hit in the market then IÂ have come to the party too late. The gains are already priced into the stock.
As investors, in order to see the massive gains that you only really see in the Micro Cap market, gains of hundreds or thousands of percent in short periods of time you must be able to uncover firms that have that new product or design breakthrough before it goes mainstream.
And this is where IÂ believe that we are with COLV. The product is not only clearly a design breakthrough but if you add on top of that the promotional, revenue generating possibilities IÂ believe that it is only a matter of time that one of the giants in the fast food industry comes along and sweeps this firm up. They could buy COLV for what would be pennies for them but for those investors who are at the table when this happens it could be a huge windfall.
